OCTOBER 6, 2025

After a successful summer of pop-ups and Eastern Market Saturdays, and dedicated visioning time in September, we are excited to share the Sister Pie Vision for 2030! Click here to read the vision on our Substack page.

A few questions we can answer in the meantime:

  • When will you be opening up the shop? Through our work this summer, we’ve been able to identify that while our retail bakery-cafe is at the heart of what we do, it’s the most unpredictable part of the business and thus not very profitable. We’ll wait to open back up for regular operating hours once we’ve established a solid financial foundation.

  • So, what's the plan for the immediate future of Sister Pie? Starting this month, we’re transitioning from the current interlude model into a “beta phase.” We’ll focus on building each silo of the business at a time, starting with Catering and Special Events. Just in time for the holiday season! We’ll work with a small team to run the production operations. Stay tuned for more details and a menu!

  • What about Thanksgiving?! It’s the holiday that started it all. This year, we’re doing things a little differently: a special, curated package with pie, cookies, limited edition merch, and more. Perfect for the steadfast SP supporter. Delicious details coming soon.

A note from Lisa Ludwinski, Founder of Sister Pie

Although the spirit of Sister Pie is alive and well, I’ve arrived at the conclusion that the business isn’t working in its current state. There are multiple, intersecting factors that contribute to this, most urgently in the form of a financial crisis. The year 2025 (so far) has been about confronting truth, sometimes courageously and in community, and at other times, under a blanket. As a business owner and a leader, I’m learning, reminiscing, mourning, growing, and searching for hope in the midst of challenge and chaos.

With summer close upon us, I have decided to make some temporary, necessary changes to our operations. Starting the week of June 9, Sister Pie will not be open for regular business hours. Instead, the business will enter a period of rest and reconfiguration, of exploration and experimentation, and of occasional pop-ups and events to keep the roof over our heads. We’ll also be fulfilling special orders and teaching baking classes throughout this time.

The best way to support our phenomenal staff during this transition is to visit the bakery in these next couple weeks to spread some kindness (and tips!!). Our last day of regular operations (for now!) is Sunday, June 8. We would love to see you, and stay tuned!

(PS I’m sure you have questions, and so do I! There’s a lot I don’t know right now, like how long this interlude will last or what Sister Pie will look like when we come back, but I’ll keep you posted. I won’t be reading or responding to comments on social media, but if you’d like to be in touch, my email is lisa@sisterpie.com.)

FAQs

Thank you for such a stunning amount of love, support, and will wishes!

Here are some frequently asked questions about what's going on:

  • Sister Pie is not closing as a bakery, or saying goodbye! It's an interlude, baby!

  • Our shop on Kercheval is here to stay. To keep up with our overhead costs (so we can come back swinging!), we've made a plan to keep income flowing, albeit at a much different pace.

  • What will we be baking for? Well, you’ll see us at some Eastern Market Saturdays (!!) this summer, in addition to some one-off weekend days in the shop. And there will be more classes posted soon! Stay tuned to social media to be in the loop.
