2019 ALTERNATIVES FOR GIRLS
Founded in 1987, Alternatives For Girls is a southwest Detroit-based nonprofit organization. They serve homeless and at-risk girls and young women through their Shelter, Prevention, and Outreach programs.
Our mission is to help homeless and high-risk girls and young women avoid violence, teen pregnancy and exploitation, and help them to explore and access the support, resources and opportunities necessary to be safe, to grow strong and to make positive choices in their lives.

BAKING WORKSHOPS
Sister Pie was thrilled to host the young girls from
the after school program at our bakery.
We made pie dough (which turned into Salted Maple pies),
mixed cookies, and more! Check out more photos below.
SISTER PIE SHARES A MEAL
Our manager team spent two evenings preparing and sharing
Sister Pie menu items for residents of AFG's women and children Shelter Program. It was such a great opportunity to share what we love with the residents and AFG's staff.
CUSTOM COOKIE
During our baking workshops with the after-school program, we had an opportunity to recreate last year's fundraising model of collaborating on a custom cookie flavor to sell in our shop. After many recipe and taste tests, we came up with PB S'MORES: the perfect summer cookie with peanut butter, bittersweet chocolate, mini marshmallows, and cinnamon.
The girls were a part of each step: flavor inspiration, branding, and they even came and mixed the inaugural batch with us at Sister Pie.
With 80% of all sales going directly back to Alternatives For Girls, we raised
$2,416.00
for their programing!
TOILETRY DRIVE
For the month of October, we collected toiletry items for AFG's shelter residents. Thank you to all of our customers, neighbors, and staff who contributed!
Together we collected:
5 bottles of lotion
16 hair products
31 tubes of toothpaste
4 boxes of feminine products
for their shelter!

HOLIDAY COOKIE SWAP FUNDRAISER
Each December, Sister Pie hosts a Holiday Cookie Swap Fundraiser (open to the public) where participants purchase a ticket and get to baking 3 dozen cookies of their choosing. At the swap, we have snacks and drinks, holiday music, and everyone goes home with 3 dozen cookies. This year, all of our proceeds from ticket sales went directly to AFG. We raised
$1,360.00
for their programing!
