CARING FOR YOUR PIE
Below are some helpful hints to keeping your Thanksgiving pies fresh for the big day.
Please refer to our Pie Care + Storage page for more information.
If I pre-order pie for Tuesday pick-up, will it still be good for Thursday?
Absolutely! See below for best storing practices.
How long do your pies keep? What's the best way to store them?
We think our pies taste best at room temperature. We recommend you keep them on a cool counter, out of direct heat. If you won't be serving your pies for a day or two, you can also keep them in the refrigerator (in the box is fine). We recommend letting them come up to room temperature before serving.
The Apple Sage Gouda, Cranberry Crumble, and Buttermilk Pumpkin Streusel are best stored at room temperature and eaten within 2 days of purchase. However, they can also be refrigerated for up to 5 days.
The Salted Maple, Brandy Pecan, and Buckwheat Chocolate Chip Cookie are best stored at room temperature and eaten within 3 days of purchase. However, they can also be refrigerated for up to 1 week.
Can I freeze my pie?
While we do recommend eating our pies fresh and within a few days of purchasing, many of our pies are suitable for freezing.
For proper freezing, tightly wrap the pie in plastic wrap twice. When you're ready to thaw, unwrap the pie and allow it to thaw completely at room temperature, on a cool counter (typically at least 24 hours). We recommend letting the pie come up to room temperature before serving. See below for heating instructions.
Can my pie be reheated?
As a general rule, Buttermilk Pumpkin Streusel, Brandy Pecan, and Salted Maple are not recommended for serving warm (they will melt in the oven and won't hold their shape).
To warm the Apple Sage Gouda, Cranberry Crumble, or Buckwheat Chocolate Chip Cookie from the fridge or from room temperature, heat the oven to 300º F and warm for 20 minutes, checking the pie by placing your hand over the center to see if it is fully warmed (more time may be required).
To warm your pie straight from the freezer, heat the oven to 350º F and warm for 20 minutes, checking the pie by placing your hand over the center to see if it is fully warmed (more time may be required).
A SEASON OF GIVING
Thanksgiving is the perfect time to gather family, neighbors, and good food. We reflect on our year with gratitude, and share a meaningful meal to celebrate.
Through our Pie-It-Forward program, our customers have an opportunity to extend this reach by
pre-purchasing a slice of pie for a stranger to enjoy. Whether it's for someone in need, someone who has never tried Sister Pie, or someone who forgot their wallet at home, this option embraces the spirit of giving we hold dear to our hearts. With your pie order this year, please also consider pie-ing it forward.
When you purchase a slice online (click the photo on the left) or in the shop, leave us your name so that we can hang a fork slip on the wall to represent your Pie-It-Forward love!
